I've been to a few StreetMeetLA photo walks since I first discovered it in my first week of living in Los Angeles. It's a great opportunity to meet and network with other photographers, models, and even some drone pilots. You can use it to hone your skills and create new content to add to your portfolio. The best part is that it's free! The latest two I attended were at Limekiln Canyon in Porter Ranch, CA and the Colorado Street Bridge in Pasadena, CA.
Limekiln Canyon Park
At the Limekiln Canyon meetup, I mainly took behind-the-scenes photos and video. I even flew my GoPro Karma drone and put together a small recap of the day. There were over 300 photographers and videographers that came out that day.
I was able to get a couple of model shots as well but it was a nice change for me to take a step back from photography and continue to improve my film making skills documenting the day and capturing the creative energy.
Colorado Street Bridge
This was mainly a portrait focused photo walk which was right up my alley. There were plenty of various backdrops to pose the models in front of. I played around with shooting through objects to give more depth to the images and even tried using a crystal prism for a different effect.
StreetMeetLA regularly hosts these photo walk meetups around the Los Angeles area. If you're ever in the area, check out their Meetup page and come out to the next one!
